Attachment Issues

Attachment problems develop due to various disruptions in the caregiver and child relationship in infancy such as caregiver depression, unavailability of caregiver, abuse, or frequent changes in caregiver.  Attachment issues manifest in several ways including withdrawal, clingy behavior, controlling of caregiver, overly social with strangers, difficulty regulating emotions, or fear of caregiver.  Family therapy is needed to help the child heal which includes meeting the child at his/her developmental age rather than his/her chronological age.
